Mary's Single Parent Page

Welcome to my Single Parent Page.

I am the proud mother of 2 boy, Mike 14 and Greg 9. They are the joy of my life and also my biggest trial. :0)

Mike is my quite one. He is very studious, calm and very sensative. Mike is in his first year of High School and is envolved in only one after school activity which is the NJROYC (Naval Junior Reserve Officers Training Corp.). This takes up a lot of his time. He is on the Exhibition Drill Team in which he has many weekend trips to other parts of the state. He is also on the Rifle Team. Both extras worry me every night after school, if someone is not throwing a gun at him to catch, they are target shooting. (Yikes!!)

Mike wants to be an Areonatical Engeener and to do this he figures that the Air Force is the way to go. By being in the NJROTC for 4 years, he has a very good chance to get either 3 or 4 year scholarships for college. Then he could go into the Air Force and be an officer.

Greg is my Wild Child. Now don't get me wrong he is very good in school, it's just tring to get him to do homework, do his chores or anything that does not involving climbing trees, jumping a fences or just general play is almost impossible! He also had big plans for the future. He also wants to go into the NJROTC (of course following his big brother) but he wants to go to Medical School then after he finishs that he wants to work on cars. :0)

Greg has contact with his father (Mike does not) he spends 2 weeks each summer and 1 week after Christmas each year. He does fight me each time he has to go and cries when he comes home that he doesn't want to go again. His fathers life style is so different from ours that this is a real upset to Greg. He doesn't like the food they eat, he wants to play with space ships, computer games and Nintendo. His dad wants him to play with trucks, play outside war games and doesn't own (or even want) a computer. So two times a year I kmow I will have a fight on ly hands.

As for myself, I am a Nail Tech by day and a video store clerk 3 nights a week. We live with my brother who is the owner of the house, video store manager and great Uncle. My mom is retired and has started quilting, we only see her when she comes up for air from behind her piles of fabric.

I have found some of the greatest support on the internet. I belong to a single parents support forum through ICQ and also belong to a single parent email list. Both have been a wonder for me because there are very few single parents in the area I live. Most of the people I know are living with the fathers of their children or are seniors. So it is a great feeling to be able to get on the computer and talk to people who know and care about what I am going through.
